1883 was a busy year for Highlandlake. The little
village was growing and the services of a post office were not only desired but
necessary for the flourishing little community. On November 11, 1883, the first
post office was opened with William Henry Oviatt appointed as Postmaster, and
Highlandlake finally had a place of its own on the map.
